For the first commercial Ad I chose, "Black and White people furniture" advertisement for Red House furniture. I know this is just a joke to make people laugh, but my argument would have to be against the discrimination that people judge upon one another. But at the same time, we make fun of the policies and laws that try to make our country content with different racial acts.

For the second ad I chose the "Pedigree Adoption AD". I feel the argument is basically the abuse of animals, but also giving the feeling that not only do animals get abused, there is also a close feeling that we too as people have the same conflict. Not only do we leave an animal behind but we also share the same alone feeling when something or someone leaves or treats us poorly.

Hello Lauren!
ReplyDeleteI think the first ad "Red House Furniture" is awesome!
Hey Lauren-
ReplyDeleteI agree with Samantha, I think the Red House is the way to go. First, is the commercial real or is it a spoof? I am afraid it's real. This ad would lend itself well to an argument about the use of humor and racism in advertising. Remember, you are arguing about the way meaning is made in these ads, not about their overall meaning or content. The adoption ad is cute too and could work but you'd need to redefine your argument. For example, how does the ad try to reach out to viewers to get them to adopt pets (use of cute images of animals, use of point of view, music, etc.)
Both of these could work well, but make sure you keep your focus on how the argument is being made (like you did with the WWII poster) and not what argument is being made.
Let me know if you have any questions-
Jen
Hi Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI loved Echo's commercial and did you see that he actually got adopted? But, I have to agree that the Red House has more to talk about. I know that racism is still around in North Carolina. I have a friend that lives there and she states it very much alive. I think this is the reason for making this commercial. Notice how they always point the camara to the hands when the the two people are shaking hands. What do you all think?
