Logos, Ethos, Pathos

Here are the definitions I came up with...

Logos: Persuading and giving evidence by reason. Giving appeal to a commercial or advertisement using reason. What makes an effective reason to what you are trying to persuade.

Ethos: Using expert comments or persuasive skills that appeal to the audience. With using experts that give a credible appeal makes the audience think its worth watching.

Pathos: is the emotional part of the commercial to appeal to the audiences emotions. Using words, language that effects the readers/listener emotions. It usually shows a point of view that helps the audience make a choice towards the ad.

This works towards the commercial I chose a pedigree commercial that shows emotion, reason, and persuasive skills that makes an audience think. I think this commercial is more towards Pathos because it has a lonely dog, and everyone loves dogs. But seeing as the dog is not getting adopted and left alone in the kennel again, there are now emotions of loneliness and abandonment. It also has logos, which are for reason. Dogs that are usually up for adoption are usually dogs that have been abandoned and left alone. Buying food for your dog from pedigree they are donating towards those lonely dogs that you wish you could more for.

  1. Great definitions. I wonder, too, if ethos is a part of this ad. By urging folks to adopt pets the Pedigree company is building its ethos. Dog owners begin to see the company as one that cares, on that can be trusted, one that really loves animals and not just money.
